I thought the Pope was the Head of the Catholic Church, not someone deeply involved in local politics, openly backing Peronist union leaders and Mayors.  Or is he being “used” by them as an ally? If that’s the case, he doesn’t seem to mind at all. On the contrary, he seems to enjoy it.  He has repeatedly and warmly welcomed at the Vatican many individuals highly suspected of corruption, fraud and other crimes.   Shouldn’t the Pope keep politicians and  public officials at arm’s length, instead of playing the role of their buddy and close friend?  Moreover, isn’t it high time we Argentines had a truly secular state? Maybe he should be reminded of a phrase attributed to Jesus: «Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s». Amen.
